Active Metabolism (VO2 Max) Test

Testing includes resting spirometry (lung volume assessment), a parameter assessment to personalize your protocol, and the Active Metabolism (VO2 max) test. The entire process takes approximately 1 hour but the testing is closer to 15-20 minutes.

During exercise of increasing intensity (running, cycling, rowing, etc.), we are measuring a few key variables: Volume of O2 consumed (VO2), Volume of Carbon Dioxide produced (VCO2), Heart Rate, Breathing Frequency, and Breath Volume (VT). With these variables we are able to extract a lot of key information about the individual’s physiology including: VO2 max, Fat max, Ventilatory Thresholds, %VO2 max at Ventilatory Thresholds, Heart Rate Training Zones, Breathing Patterns, Breath Volume utilization, and Mechanical Efficiency. The testing is done by creating and following a custom “ramp” protocol that progressively loads your cardiovascular system. Ultimately, these factors give us insight into what types and intensities of exercise will help you meet your specific goals most efficiently.
